The ILSB seeks to strengthen and encourage movement leaders so that they can join and participate in the decision-making spaces that impact their lives and connect with different movements, civil society organizations, and government agencies. Members from the ILSB-supported networks of young people and Indigenous women have joined key advocacy spaces, including the State Organizations for the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy (GEPEAS), which bring together representatives from government and civil society to establish strategies to prevent adolescent pregnancy on the local level and ensure that the national strategy is effectively implemented. Additionally, young activists from the ILSB-supported youth networks have established collaboration agreements with government institutions in Morelos, Sonora, Quintana Roo, Guerrero, and Puebla (Mexican Youth Institutes, Women's Institutes, Human Rights Commission, and Ministries of Health) to develop projects, programs, and activities that support and share information on sexual and reproductive rights and offer capacity building and training opportunities. These local leaders are important voices in their states and their communities and help ensure that the perspectives and needs of young people and Indigenous women are heard and incorporated into public policy decision-making processes.
